Virtual Estate Planning
In light of the health concerns around COVID-19, our firm is committed to accommodating clients who have estate needs. We are now providing clients with the ability to create a will from the comfort and safety of their home. Our virtual estate planning process is nearly identical to our in-person estate planning process. We achieve this by conducting all virtual estate planning meetings online through whichever medium works best for the client (e.g. – Zoom, Skype, Google Meet, Teleconference, etc.) We can schedule an initial consultation to discuss how the process will work.
After that initial meeting, our team will securely deliver your estate planning documents to you electronically. At our next virtual meeting, we will walk you through the documents in the same manner we would in person. We can make any changes based on your needs.
The formal execution of the documents will be handled on a case-by-case basis depending on your preferences, which will be discussed in further detail below. We are cognizant of the current health crisis and are committed to providing you with the safest and most efficient way to meet your estate needs.

How do I begin the process?

I am not great with technology. Will I have trouble with virtual estate planning?
No. Our firm is committed to accommodating our clients irrespective of their technological skills. Only a telephone is required, although a computer would expedite the process. However, the end product will be the same – a legally enforceable document that reflects the client’s estate wishes.
How will I review all of the documents electronically?
Our firm understands that it may be difficult to review the documents electronically. One solution we have used is Zoom’s screen sharing function which would allow us to share the documents directly on your screen. Clients have also opted to print the documents while we work through them. If you do not have a printer but would like to review hard copies, we can have the documents mailed to your home. We are committed to making this process as easy as possible for our clients, regardless of the means they have available.
How will I execute my documents?
As noted above, the formal execution of the documents will be handled on a case-by-case basis depending on the client’s comfort level. Our office is open on a limited basis so physically coming in to sign the documents is one option. However, we understand that many clients will be hesitant to do so.
Rather than come into the office, clients can formally execute the documents from the comfort of their homes. We can walk you through the process on how to do this. Unfortunately, New York law does not permit digital notarization. We can work with you to arrange access to a notary to meet the formal execution requirements.
